South Beach Diet Phase 1 - I lost 22 pounds!

Two weeks ago, I decided to go on a South Beach Diet. I was so alarmed because my bathroom scale reads 230 pounds! I give myself a pat at the back for successfully, letting for of rice, chocolates and other prohibited foods.

Here's what I did
  1. I bought a lot of mixed greens. I'm a rice person. So, it was an enduring self-control the first three days. But, I was eventually was able to let go of my rice cravings. For my mixed greens, I specifically go the Mixed Green Pack by Gourmet Village. The leaves are sweet and would go nicely with any salad dressings. I love Gourmet Village's Honey Dijon Mustard Dressings.
  2. Turbo Broiled Eggplant. Grilled Eggplant are sweet. But, it is time consuming to start a grill for one piece of eggplant. I usually peel my eggplant and drizzle with extra virgin olive oil plus a dash of salt and pepper. I like to put light sour cream on my turbo broiled eggplant.
  3. Electric Grilled Pork chops. After trimming the visible fats, I seasoned my pork chops with salt and peppers and just grilled them.
  4. Pan Fried Steaks. Who says I can't have a steak while on diet? More, who says I can't have it fried? Well, you can afford the fats as long as it's a good fats. According to Dr. Agatson, olive oil, canola oil and peanut oil are good fats. I use olive oil for my sauteeing and canola oil for deep frying.
  5. Beef Fondue. Err, actually these are deep fried beef cubes. Just chose sirloin or tenderloin. Avoid ribeye and brisket.
  6. Eggs. I would do a scrambled eggs with tomato, tarragon, onions and mozzarella cheese.
  7. Non-Fat Milk. The South Beach Diet calls for a 1% Low Fat Milk. Unfortunately, I can't find that kind of milk at our local groceries. So, I'm stuck with 2% Magnolia Guiltless Low Fat Chocolate Milk. I just take a glass of this in the morning. It makes me full and controls my appetite till lunch.
  8. Soya Milk.
  9. Tao Pao. Good snack alternative. It's a tofu skin and very crunchy. The way to cook this is deep fried.
  10. Miso Soup. I bought a Miso Paste from at a local Japanese Grocery. A tablespoon of Miso Paste and two cups of water. You're good to go. Yummy and tasty.
  11. Low-Fat Yogurt sweeted with Splenda.
  12. Coke Light. I am glad that diet sodas are allowed. I grew accustomed to drinking softdrinks. It's quite hard to give that up. Though, I tried to limit my coke light intake like 1.5 bottle for two days compared to 1.5 bottle for one day.
  13. Calamansi Juice sweetened with Splenda.
I don't want bland food when I go on a diet. So far, South Beach Diet has suit me. I was able to explore a lot of food and experiment with different recipes. I am now on my South Beach Diet Phase 2. I know the first two weeks of the diet. It's expected to lose 8-13 pounds. But, for the Phase 2 it's 1-2 pounds per week.
